Blue Seas AI builds AI systems for small to medium businesses on the Sunshine Coast, in Brisbane and across South East Queensland, and Australia-wide. Founded by Bart Puszko, a Queensland Government AI Mentor with 16 years in financial crime, risk and continuous improvement for major banks. We help businesses across all industries become AI-first - redesigning processes, teams, and systems with AI at the core, not bolted on top.

## Where AI Can and Cannot Sit in a Law Firm

Blue Seas AI scores every step of a legal process on two separate scales before building anything: how safe it is to let AI do that step, and how well current AI can actually do it. The bands are anchored to NIST AI RMF 1.0, ISO/IEC 42001:2023, ISO/IEC 23894 and the human-in-the-loop oversight taxonomy, alongside the firm's own professional obligations.

Reviewed work is safe work. Drafting a letter from an existing precedent scores high on safety because a solicitor reads it before it goes, so the human review sits between the draft and any effect on the client. Low safety scores are reserved for steps where AI would act irreversibly on its own.

Steps AI must never perform in a law firm: witnessing or signing a document, assessing testamentary capacity, authorising a release of trust funds, and the final compliance or legal sign-off. These are gated behind a named human who authorises each instance, or excluded from the build entirely.

On data location: Australian processing where the firm's matters require it, settled and priced at the start. Where a client contract, a government or defence-linked matter, or the firm's insurer imposes a location requirement, that requirement governs the design.

No supplier can guarantee a law firm that an AI build is compliant. The obligations attach to the firm and depend on facts only the firm holds, including turnover, the terms of its client engagements, its insurer's position and its own risk appetite. Blue Seas AI describes its engineering controls and the reasoning behind them so the firm can form its own view. That is not legal advice and it is not a certification.
